On November 28th, my Tibetan Terrier, Ch. Araki Miss Conduct at Calliope passed the first leg, A, of the Novice CD Obedience title. She got a score of 177 out of 200 (170 is the passmark). Also passing CD Novice Obedience legs were a Golden Retriever owned by Jean Ray, a mixed breed owned by Brenda Kaufman, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback owned by Sarah Hamilton.<\/p>\n

I usually train my dogs with The B’dos. Dog Training Club. The trials are scored by the judges they appoint. Currently, in Barbados, anyone seeking to achieve the CD obedience title will have to achieve this through attending the trials set by The B’dos. Dog Training Club and being scored through a judge appointed by this club. The CD title has part A, B, and C. My understanding of this is that B and C can be marked harder than leg A. And different judges will be used to score the dogs to achieve the CD title.<\/p>\n

I believe in starting obedience training with my dogs when they are puppies. And when they become young adults, they have the basic training in commands to run in agility and also to pass obedience at a more advanced level.<\/p>\n

Passing Novice can be a challenge as it has exercises which are done off leash and once the leash is taken off the dog for the exercise, the handler is only allowed to touch the dog to move it from one area to another for another exercise. Between exercises, the handler can praise the dog but cannot motivate and reward by offering food, as no food is allowed in the obedience ring.<\/p>\n

Tibby has settled down now in obedience. She was a zoomer before. She always does a very fast recall, but as a puppy would do the recall and then do things like zoom off, out of the ring and pose on the high walk way of the agility equipment. That particular agility obstacle was never introduced to her at that time, but because she is a Tibetan Terrier, I suspect she loves heights that other breeds might be afraid of.<\/p>\n

I have achieved 4 CD titles with Bouviers so I am experienced handler and competitor in the obedience ring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
