The copper thieves have struck buildings in Barbados like churches, telephone pole wires, and have now badly affected the training schedule of The Barbados Dog Training Club at the grounds at Waterford.

This Club used to be able to run both agility and obedience classes at different levels, several times a week. The club had gone to the expense of providing electricity for this purpose.

The first copper raid was last year when the meter was removed from the fenced area, and the cables cut and removed. At considerable expense, the Club replaced the cables, putting them higher in the trees and into conduit to make their removal more difficult.

Classes resumed and everything was going well but the copper thieves raided again and this time the Club will have to look at alternative arrangements for agility and obedience classes as the grounds are in an isolated area and it would not make sense to undergo that expense again.

Agility classes and obedience at the CD and CDX level are expected to resume in June, 2012, and currently there is a Special Beginners’ Obedience class on Saturday evenings. Advantage can be taken of the longer evenings of sunshine as well and of course, weekends.
