The new White House puppy has finally arrived and it is one of the breeds the family was considering.  It did not, however, come from a shelter (as had originally being talked about).

The Portuguese Water Dog is considered a rare breed and it would be unusual to pick up a PWD from a shelter.

The 6 month old puppy was a gift from Senator Edward Kennedy who owns 3 PWDs, Sunny, Splash and Cappy.

Considered a good pet for people with allergies, the breed is also one of the very playful, rambunctious breeds so I am sure the family will have lots of fun with it.

Of course, they will have their trainers and staff to help them

The Obamas are going to make a donation to the D.C. Humane Society, as a gesture for not taking in a puppy from one of the shelters.  And those PE..  people, wonder what they will say about that!  But who cares anyway 🙂
