DOGS ARE COMING OUT on the losing end as the economic sluggishness lingers in Barbados.

As the price of dog food soars, owners are dumping their dogs on the streets, tying them in open lots or dropping them off at animal shelters.

With the opening of the new year, reports from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Woodbourne Boarding Kennels in St Philip and the Ark Animal Welfare Society in St George indicate that abandonment and cruelty soared in 2015, linked directly to tight finances.

One dog was rescued after he was left tied to a pole with electric cord. He had scars around the neck from being tied all day.

The above article was written and published by The Nation newspaper.

From what I am seeing on Facebook, the Rescue facilities in Barbados are usually full but kind people still come out to find homes to help these dogs which have being abandoned by their owners.
