For the first time in the show’s history, viewers can watch the action live on the web.  This will include the agility, obedience, heelwork to music, group and Best in Show judging along with other activities such as commentaries and features outside the show arena. Starting on March 5th it will end on March 8th.

And you can watch it HERE

Lots of agility on Thursday, also the judging of the Terrier and Hound grounps

Friday – Toy and Utility groups

Saturday – Gundogs

Sunday – Working and Pastoral and BIS and it is coming to you, live, as it happens 🙂

I think it is great that The Kennel Club, UK, have made these arrangements and they might turn out to be more popular than the BBC’s televising.  With the social media today of YouTube, Twitter, the podcasts etc.  the World’s largest dog show is still going strong.

Handling classes started for the March show.

A few Akitas were there and this breed will compete against the two breeds shown in the 2 earlier posts.

One of the Akita breeders, Tramaine Worrell was there and kindly held my Bouvier “Rhapsody” while I took some pix.

Bouvier and Akita

Bouvier and Akita

The above Akita is Viking’s Lady, owned by Tramaine Worrell (Tropic Akitas) and bred by Curtis Deane. “Kita” is the first Akita which Tramaine bought and she has strong Redwitch and Goshen’s lines, being line-bred on strong well known Akitas such as Ch.  Goshen’s Dark’n  Debonair and Ch. Goshen’s Bigger is Better at Redwitch.

“Kita’s” first litter was sired by the BIS B’dos., #1 Akita in Scotland in 2000, and #2 in UK in 2000, Ch. Resistance is Futile at Tondar owned by Anthony Pilgrim.

Out of this litter, Tramaine kept Ember Fire Glow. “Cobie” now has 1 CC, 2 RCCs, 2 best puppy in breed, and a Reserve Best Puppy in Show to the Bouvier Ch. Rhapsody whom Tramaine is holding.

“Cobie” has been lined to Anthony Pilgrim’s American import, Kenjo No Spin Zone.

The above information was provided by Tramaine.

Recently imported by Ricky and Jolene and too young, I believe, for the March show, is the female Miniature Schnauzer puppy who now joins the top male show Miniature Schnauzer featured in a recent post.

This breed competes in the Utility Group.

This breed weighs between 9 – 16 lbs. and is a long coated breed.

It will compete in the Utility group against the Akita and the Miniature Schnauzer.

Three of them (2 imported) were at Waterford grounds on Sunday, February 22nd where their owner was getting them ready for the show.

These dogs were with their owner, Michellan Bascombe.

Thought this video was cute.  Nice to see this joke told on video.

The tale goes like this: “Helen” has been searching all over for her Chihuahua puppy.  She is worried he might have escaped and gone under the fence and be roaming the streets.  So after calling, and getting no response from him, she starts to put up the “Lost Puppy” signs.

Yep, he’s still alive (I hope) but just rather breathless for a while! 🙂

Just a smile :)

This evening I passed through to visit Lisa White and her basic obedience training class.  I took Rhapsody and Rita for a bit of socialising. At the time I took this pix, both Rhapsody and Rita had legs of the Novice (CD) title through The B’dos. Dog Training Club so they are at a much higher level than Lisa’s class but the Bouviers enjoy coming out to socialise.

Both Bouviers (very fun loving and not the easiest breed to train) achieved their CD (advanced obedience title) through my training with The B’dos. Dog Training Club Novice classes. I am a believer in The B’dos Dog Training Club group classes, especially at Novice, CD level. I am results oriented, so to me, I will attend trials and work hard to pass. So far I have achieved 4 CD titles in Bouviers.

Lisa usually does basic obedience group classes on Saturday evenings.  And in the week, she concentrates on individual home training of dogs.  Lisa has over 20 years experience in training dogs.

Her contact information is: 427-6776, and 243-4338.

Coming from the Working Group where the Bouvier Des Flandres competes with breeds such as the Dobermanns, Bull Mastiffs, Great Danes, Dogue De Bordeaux, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Boxers, Ch. Calliope Rhapsody has always done well. At her first show, at 7 months, she won Best Puppy in Show and she has moved steadily forward.

Last year she won a Best in Show and Best Locally Bred in Show,  plus a Reserve Working Group and Best Locally Bred in the Working Group. Her points from the shows would also make her runner up for the Dog of the Year award, and also the top dog in the Working Group.

She is bred by me: her sire is Ch. Rick Lois From the Dogsfarm at Calliope: dam is Ch. Farleycross So Far So Good at Calliope, owned by me and also handled by me at dog shows.

Congratulation to the owners Ricky and Jolene Anderson and, of course, the Miniature Schnauzer, Ch. Risepark Pretty Smart Guy at Jamrock for winning the BKC’s Dog of the Year Award for 2008.

The Min. Sch. competes in the Utility Group and since this dog’s first appearance at shows as a puppy, it has only had the Akita breed to compete against for a Group win  and it has won the Group each time.  It also won a Reserve Best in Show last year.

Lovely line up of dogs and it did have some of my favourite breeds such as The Puli, Scottish Deerhound, Scottish Terrier and the Giant Schnauzer. The Giant Schnauzer shown was the USA’s number one show dog.

It’s a “wow” to realise that the dog which won Westminster 2009 is 10 years old.  (I believe that is equivalent to 70 years old in human years!} “Stump” is the oldest ever Best in Show Westminster winner and he reportedly came out of retirement just last week! “Stump” is a Sussex Spaniel. This is one of the breeds that it is said can live to 15 years.  It is also considered a “rare breed”.

Comparing Westminster and Crufts, I find the US handlers get a lot more animation out of their dogs.

And, the show was still sponsored by Pedigree which has pulled out from Crufts, UK.

And the show was still televised as usual although P (and I don’t plan to spelt out their name to give them another link) did try to stop it and failing that did a protest demonstation.

The Kennel Club UK, is undergoing all kinds of changes – the USA can still dock tails and have not allowed themselves to be bossed around by the RSPCA, P— or otherwise.

And, as far as I know, their breed standards have not changed either.  Good for them.
